CAD software:

Beginners:

If you’re someone who has not worked with any CAD Software, we recommend using Autodesk TinkerCAD. It allows you to make 3D designs using basic shapes. They also have an awesome Get Started page. Just sign-up for an Autodesk account for FREE and you can start designing.

Intermediate:

For a more versatile CAD software, we recommend Autodesk Fusion 360. It is normally paid software, but Autodesk offers an educational license FREE for students and teachers.

“Advanced:”

If you are curious about what software the engineering students at Chicago EDT use, we use SolidWorks. However, it is paid software and their educational license are only offered directly to schools. Although Fusion 360 can technically do everything we do at EDT, a closer comparison would be Autodesk Inventor, which also is a product Autodesk offers an educational license FREE for students and teachers.

NOTE:

This program is run by UIC students.

We are doing this to further interest in the STEM field out of our own budget. As we are students, we might not be able to get back to you quickly. For this, we apologize. We will try to work on submitted designs as fast as we are able to.

Thank you!
